Statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic

Damascus, October 30, 2025 –
H.E. President Ahmad Al-Sharaa received in the capital, Damascus, and in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mr. Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, a high-level delegation from the Federal Republic of Germany headed by Mr. Johann Fadeevol, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, discussions focused on means of strengthening bilateral relations between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany. Both sides emphasized the importance of establishing a Syrian-German Business Council that would contribute to expanding prospects for economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The German side reaffirmed its support for Syria’s unity and sovereignty, and expressed its readiness to contribute to reconstruction efforts and to support small-scale projects and local development initiatives. The two sides also reviewed possible areas of cooperation in the fields of education, transitional justice, humanitarian assistance, investment, and infrastructure.

The talks further touched upon international issues of mutual interest, ways to enhance security cooperation, and the exchange of expertise in various fields. The situation of the Syrian community in Germany and ways to improve the conditions of Syrian refugees there were also discussed.

This visit, the first by the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the current German government to Damascus, represents an important step toward rebuilding bridges and enhancing dialogue and cooperation between Syria and Germany.
