Statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic
Damascus, Sunday, 7 June 2026 - 21 Dhul-Hijjah 1447 AH – The Syrian Arab Republic affirms that the right of victims and their families to know the truth and to access information related to the violations they have suffered is an inherent human right, a fundamental pillar of justice and the rule of law, and an essential element for strengthening civil peace and societal stability.
Experience relating to the grave violations witnessed in Syria has shown that the value of information, documents, and evidence lies not only in their preservation or archiving, but in their use to serve victims and their families, reveal the truth, clarify the fate of the missing, document violations, and support transitional justice, accountability, and redress efforts.
In this context, the Syrian Arab Republic calls upon all States, international organizations, and relevant mechanisms that possess information, documents, or evidence pertaining to the situation in Syria to share what they have with the competent national institutions and to enable them to make use of it, in a manner that contributes to serving victims and their families, revealing the truth, and supporting transitional justice, accountability, and national recovery.
The Syrian Arab Republic further affirms that timely access to this information is a key factor in alleviating the suffering of victims and their families, strengthening confidence in national institutions, and supporting the work of the National Commission for Transitional Justice and the National Commission for the Missing, thereby contributing to consolidating civil peace and societal stability.
The Syrian Arab Republic also reiterates its commitment to constructive cooperation with all relevant international partners, and its readiness to develop partnerships and joint programs that contribute to serving victims’ families, enhancing the capacities of the competent national institutions, and achieving tangible results in revealing the truth, entrenching justice, and supporting national recovery and societal reconciliation.
