The Syrian Arab Republic Participates in The Global Refugee Forum
A delegation from the Syrian Arab Republic, headed by Mr. Saad Baroud, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, participated in the Global Refugee Forum, held in Geneva, Switzerland.
In a statement from the Syrian Arab Republic, Mr. Baroud affirmed that the Syrian refugee has been an added value to the host countries and has contributed positively to various sectors, and that a sustainable solution to the refugee issue begins from within Syria by addressing internal displacement and securing the necessities for a decent life.
The statement indicated that the return of refugees must be safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable, far removed from any politicization, noting the reform steps taken by the Syrian state after the fall of the previous regime to create the appropriate conditions for return.
It was also emphasized that addressing the challenges of financing and supporting the reconstruction and development of Syria are essential to achieving a safe and sustainable return, with the Syrian Arab Republic renewing its commitment to constructive cooperation with the international community, United Nations agencies and host countries.
The Syrian Arab Republic made the first pledge regarding refugees in a historic step, and affirmed that it will exert all efforts in this field, including good offices to follow up on asylum issues around the world.
