The Syrian Arab Republic Welcomes the European Union's Decision to Lift Sanctions on Government Entities

Damascus, May 18, 2026 – The Syrian Arab Republic welcomes the European Union's decision to lift sanctions on seven Syrian government entities, including the Ministries of Interior and Defense, while renewing sanctions on figures of the former regime and those involved in violations committed against the Syrian people.

The Republic affirms that this step will contribute to supporting recovery and reconstruction efforts, enhancing the capacity of official institutions to fulfill their duties in serving citizens and consolidating security and stability, and contributing to the path of stability and building a new Syria based on the rule of law and strong institutions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirms Syria's commitment to continuing its openness and constructive cooperation with the international community on the basis of mutual respect and the preservation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity, in a manner that serves the interests of the Syrian people and supports the path of reconstruction and economic and political recovery.
