The Syrian Arab Republic condemns the targeting of a UAE tanker in the Strait of Hormuz

Damascus, May 4, 2026 – The Syrian Arab Republic condemns the targeting of a tanker belonging to the sisterly United Arab Emirates by Iranian drones while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz. This attack constitutes a flagrant violation of the freedom of international navigation and the rules of international law, and threatens the security and stability of the region and the safety of global trade routes.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirms Syria’s full support for the sisterly United Arab Emirates in the face of this aggression and expresses its solidarity with it, stressing the need for the international community to intervene to stop Iranian attacks, which will only escalate tensions in the region. It also calls for respect for the sovereignty of states and for ensuring the security of international maritime routes, in order to preserve regional and international stability.
