Foreign Minister Al-Shaibani Discusses Bilateral Relations with His Canadian Counterpart

A phone call took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mr. Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, received a phone call today from the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Anita Anand. During the call, the two sides discussed the latest developments in bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance cooperation in various fields.

The Minister expressed the Syrian government’s appreciation for the support provided by Canada to the Syrian people over the past fourteen years, as well as its support for the process of building a new Syrian state. He also expressed his hope to pay an official visit to Canada next year, which would contribute to opening broader horizons for bilateral cooperation.

For her part, Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand congratulated the Minister on the achievements Syria has made during the year since its liberation and the positive impact of these achievements on the lives of Syrians and on the return of stability to Syria. Ms. Anand also affirmed the Canadian government’s support for the Syrian Arab Republic, including its decision to remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, to remove Hayat Tahrir al-Sham from the list, and its continued support for relief and development efforts in Syria.

Both sides agreed on the importance of developing relations between the two countries in the fields of economy, investment, transitional justice, and demining, emphasizing the vital role played by the Syrian-Canadian community as a bridge for communication and rapprochement between the two peoples and in strengthening future partnerships.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirms that these contacts fall within the framework of ongoing efforts to deepen Syria’s international engagement and expand cooperation with friendly countries, in a manner that serves the interests of the Syrian people and strengthens the path toward stability and development.
